This itinerary provides a steady ascent from the northern side, with good acclimatization opportunities. Daily trekking builds altitude gradually – follow 'pole pole' pacing and stay hydrated.
Your guide collects you from Moshi hotel after breakfast and gear check. Drive to Nalemuru Gate (~3-4 hours) for registration. Trek through pine forest and montane zone to Simba Camp.
Afternoon arrival for rest, dinner and briefing. First night camping.
Ascend through moorland with giant senecios and views over Kenyan plains. Steady climb to Second Cave or Kikelewa Cave area for camp.
Excellent acclimatization day – enjoy the solitude.
Climb towards Mawenzi Peak through barren alpine terrain. Reach Mawenzi Tarn Camp near dramatic Mawenzi views.
Afternoon rest for altitude adjustment before summit push.
Cross the lunar-like saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. Arrive Kibo Hut afternoon for rest, early dinner and preparation for summit night.
Sleep early for midnight start.
Midnight start for summit (6-8 hours up). Reach Gilman's/Stella Point at dawn, then Uhuru Peak sunrise. Descend to Horombo Hut.
Long but rewarding – celebrate your summit!
Final descent via Marangu trail through moorland and rainforest to Gate. Certificates, farewells, transfer to Moshi for rest/celebration.
