This scenic itinerary provides excellent acclimatization with gradual ascent and "climb high, sleep low" at Lava Tower. Daily trekking builds altitude steadily – follow "pole pole" pacing for best summit chances.
Collection from Moshi hotel, drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. 4WD to trailhead, then trek through lush rainforest (monkeys, birds) to Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Rest, dinner and briefing for the days ahead.
Leave rainforest, enter moorland and giant heathers. Cross Shira Plateau with panoramic views of Kibo. Reach Shira 2 Camp for acclimatization rest.
Stunning sunset over the plateau – a highlight!
Ascend to Lava Tower (~4,600m) for altitude exposure, lunch, then descend to Barranco Camp. Pass giant senecios and dramatic landscapes.
Key acclimatization day – prepares for summit push.
Conquer the iconic Barranco Wall (scrambling, not technical), then traverse to Karanga Valley. Views of Heim Glacier and endless horizon.
Afternoon rest for energy before summit day.
Steady climb to Barafu ("sleeping" in Swahili) Camp. Rocky alpine desert terrain. Early dinner and rest for midnight summit attempt.
Prepare gear and sleep early.
Midnight start for summit push (6-8 hours up). Reach Stella Point at dawn, then Uhuru Peak sunrise. Celebrate, photos, descend to Mweka Camp.
Long but triumphant day – congratulations on summiting!
Final descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate. Certificates, farewells, then transfer to Moshi hotel for rest/shower/celebration.
End of services – full of summit memories!
